Back on the 1's and 2's with my man Brock A.K.A genepool at fortune sound club tomorrow Friday Jan 13th. Presented byTantalus labs. I designed the poster and they liked the graphic enough that they also wanted me to re-purpose it into some long sleeves. I designed and had 2 versions printed - cement & black. We'll be playing some deep house cuts, disco, tech house, French house, the stuff that makes you move. Tune in, grab some merch, or don't!
So much good design references with old album artwork and this Miles Davis's 'Black Beauty' from 1977 is an insane example. The interior spreads are also amazing. The art direction, colours, photography, and collage SHEEEEEEESH. I wish I loved the music from this one as much as the artwork and most of his other albums but this ones during his rock jazz phase which is a little hectic for my taste.
A poster I designed for an upcoming party this Friday for Tantalus Labs With legend Dane Macdonald on the decks. Found images, moving type, cut & paste then scanned together. If you look at it really far away the moving type (Music selection & Friday December 2nd section) kinda resembles a surf fin. Maybe time to take a surf break haha!
I recently got my hands on my dream sofa set, the 'Bastiano' by Tobia Scarpa. Sorting out a sofa for your space seems to be one of the toughest furniture decisions as the few great options are really exepensive and anything cheap sucks. Then there's material, colour, and also size. Aftering knowing I wanted the Bastiano, I was actively looking for around 2 years before finally locking it in. These are kinda hard to find unless you're willing to pay 1st dibs prices or shipping from Europe. I found a black leather 3 set (3 seater and 2 lounge chairs) in the middle of nowhere Florida for a nice price. Originally I only wanted the 3 seater but it was being sold as a set, which now I'm stoked I got it all. I had to figure out the logistics in getting it from Florida and across the border which took a bit of work but makes it even sweeter now.
Another graphic for Back In Five plant shop. Having done a few graphics for the shop now I've got a pretty loose working relationship with Owner Sean who basically let's me do my thing for whenever they need another apparel design. I think the only brief for this was it should say 'Plant Supply' and make it feel like a shop tee.I went in and customized some type, fucked around a lot with the kerning, tracking, and scale of letters to make it feel a kinda awkward, some anti-design aesthetic referencing Web 1.0.
